I am completely and utterly and totally and completely enthusiastic. I am not much a concert-goer, but I surely didn't want to miss this one. Massive Attack stopped in Ljubljana tonight and the concert was - in one word - f a n t a s t i c!!! Massive Attack is one of the bands I've been following since their start and it's very likely also the band that had the strongest influence of my music taste (in my more or less grown up time, that is). Not to mention I simply fall for the whole genre they spawned with their Blue Lines, Protection, Mezzanine and 100th Window.

And boy, oh, boy, have they prepared a giant show. I wasn't really sure how are they going to present their music on stage. And they did a fantastic thing: two drummers, guitar, bass, massive stack of keyboards and three extra vocalists. Summer theatre Krizanke was jam packed and we, the audience, have been fed an amazing portion of Massive Attack; some new music and, of course, songs that put Massive Attack on an all-time music map: Angel, Safe From Harm, Teardrop, Karmacoma and Unfinished Sympathy, to mention just a few.

One of the highlights of the concert was definitely Safe From Harm; they made a huge 10-minute epic song out of it and I think the visuals made it even more powerful. They made really good use of a giant screen at the back of the stage. And during Safe From Harm they started showing titles from Slovenian gossip magazines (in Slovene!!!) then they slowly moved to titles from daily newspapers and soon they turned to really hard-core Slovene political stuff, with focus on human rights and such. Then they moved onto some philosophical stuff regarding rights and truth and ended the song with really harsh critic of American/Bush moves in Iraq and his plans regarding Iran. It was really strong.

We, the audience/listeners/watchers/participants really enjoyed nearly two hours of show; including three extra songs and I am still a few feet above the ground.

Pardon my verbal Massive Attack diarrhea, but I am really happy tonight. And some pictures of course. :)

And it started...

Warming up the crew and the audience.

First higlight - Teardrop.

Safe From Harm was almost unreal.

Inertia Creeps - powerful as hell.

(A bit blurry) Karmacoma and enthusiastic crowd.

Massive Attack is one of my most favorite bands of all times! I saw this show about 1.5 years ago when they swung it through here. Same lighting, same line-up. It was one of the most moving shows I have ever seen. I am so awe-struck for you!

Yes.... moving is the right word - during Safe From Harm I experienced shivers I wasn't expecting. Very powerful. :)
