My kids are chicken

Ok, ok, they are not chicken. They are parakeets or, as they call them in their vaterland, budgies. But those two fellas, called Žiga and Žaga, really chicken out way too easily for my own personal taste. Ok, I know that budgies lose their fear of people only if have just one (not working for me, I want those birds to have proper company) and if you really try to "domesticate" them, which is not my intention.
Anyway, their cage is always open, they can fly around as much as they want - and they do a lot of that - and to give them some extra playground, we've hung a branch above the cage. They've had one for 5 years now and they just nibbled all the tiny parts away. So, last weekend, while doing Castles, we found something that could replace their old playground.

Alas......... they got all hysterical and stayed in the cage for the whole damned week, didn't even want to show their beaks out of the cage and issuing terrified looks to the branch up above. 'Till tonight. They finally got out of the cage, of course, still ignoring the branch, but that's a progress anyway.

Žaga and Žiga, finally out, chirping like mad.

And this is the dreadful thing hanging above their arses.......

What a horror.........

yes, I agree, and I think I don't have them to watch over me LOL so they are okay, they should just accept that dreadful branch a bit easier :)

Birds are so funny. They get set in their ways, like old men.

I am still pretty "innocent" when it comes ot old men, but these birds are peculiar :)

If you let them fly free around the place, don't they poop all over your furniture?

no, because they only land on the cage and on that branch (used to, at least...). an occasional tiny little dropping can easily be removed from the wall. obviously, they do their business even when flying around. LOL

That's good to hear - I'd be worried about visiting your place if there was a chance of getting poop in my hair... ;-)

The one time I visited Barcelona, I saw cages of birds whilst walking down the Ramblas. I can't remember if they were these birds but I think they were. You generally won't see things like that here. It was very cool.

I know quite a few people with tiny little creatures like that at home. they really bring some extra life into your home.
