Spring, Pt. Deux

There's much more to spring in Ljubljana than what my previous post showed. It was a really beautiful day today, so I just sneaked ouf of the office an hour earlier to make a short stroll through the old city centre, which happens to be my favoruite part of Ljubljana. And, luckily, I only work 5 minutes of walk away from the very heart of my city. So, here's a bit more spring in Ljubljana, taken just before I went to the hairdresser to renew my ghetto (as I call it) lizard (as Igor calls it) look... Oh well. It happens. :)

The view over river Ljubljanica from The Three Bridges

Down by the river...

Willow, weep for me...

Ljubljanica from The Shoemakers' Bridge

The Castle

And just some spring life.

Wow! Beautiful! And so much "old world" charm!

So, when are you sending me the plane ticket so I can visit? I mean, like I have this passport and everything, but no where to go and stuff... :)

it is "old" indeed. The "Old Ljubljana" as we call it, is mainly baroque, because it was devastated by a major earthquake centuries ago and then renovated it in then fashionable style, but the area has been populated since 2.000 BC - the world's oldest wheel was found here.
Ok, enough of the history.... if you want to know more...

And............... You are more then welcome here - and I think I can be quite a nice host :)

you just made me want to come back there... bad T! But maybe this summer, if I get back to Italy, I will take the boys on a tour, with some camping gear and a rented car... ha ha

Those buildings are gorgeous. Europe is so... old. The oldest of the oldest buildings in the colonized New World cannot hold a candle to the architecture throughout the rest of the planet.

I'm convinced now that my first international trip will be to Slovenia to meet you guys (oh, I think I am supposed to stop in Viladecans, Spain, to pick up gorkabear) and then we're heading to the Ukraine to see the village where my father's family originated.
Mar. 16th, 2008 10:55 am (UTC)
But it's funny.... you cannot really see any really old buildings in Ljubljana - apart from quite some remains from the Roman times. Ljubljana was rebuilt in the 17th century.

Spain - Slovenia - Ukraine...... a nice trip, with a lot to see. Keep me posted! Slovenia awaits! :)
