Evening in eight images.

Iggy's brother and his wife dropped by for a long overdue dinner. And since our weekends tend to be full, we just had to do it during the week. A nice, little evening. And, no, I didn't see the moon eclipse, because I was too lazy to go out, and, no, you won't see the people, today you'll just see some stages. Of food preparation. And, yes, it was a low key evening, because I (still) don't like to cook. :)

Preparing caprese with mozarella bufala straight from heaven. Thanks, Ricky!

Yes, I was crying. Parsley and shallot.

Melange forestiere getting ready.

And almost there...

Layer upon layer.

Put a lid on it.

Icecream, strawberries with a few drops of 18 year old aceto balsamico and Muffato della sala. Wine straight from heaven! Thanks, Andrea!

It all looks delicious (except the shallots -- they make me cry so bad I can't even see what I'm cutting), but the last picture looks like a professional food stylist took it. It's a great shot.

Thanks! :) Professional would remove breadcrumbs and provide a proper setting. And wouldn't use phonecam. :) But food was good, I have to say, and, yes, I was also crying like mad. But I prefer shallot to onion.

I never thought strawberries and balsamic would go, but they really do!
Jun. 16th, 2011 11:33 pm (UTC)
Oh, they DO go! :)

Yes! It makes a wonderful combination.
We cut the strawberries in halves or quarters, sprinkle with sugar and a good splash of balsamic and set in the fridge to get all juicy and delicious. Serve a la.Topaz with fresh whipped cream. You'll love it!

OMG! A sin! Strawberries and sugar??? I never add any sugar to fresh fruit and balsamico I use for fruit is actually sweet, because it's been aged and reduced, so it's like a really intense syrup.

Honey, that ain't cookin', it's art. Beautiful! About the balsamic, there's a chef in this area who reduces two cups of balsamic down to a quarter cup of glaze, and then bastes fruit kebabs with it. Just listening to him talk about it made me almost drool.

Hehehehehehehe thanks! :) Well, I do not really like to cook. I think I can, but it's just not the bliss many talk about. But when I do cook, I want it to look nice too. And, of course, it should also taste the part! :)

I use a lot of "ordinary" balsamic for salads and seasoning of meat and such. For sweets and for extra "punch" I use this really old, intense, dense, thick balsamico. It's just... good.

De Cecco is a good brand. Oil is quite good for cooking and I think De Cecco is one of the best "supermarket variety" pasta.

mmmmm... hungry now. I love to cook but I almost never make pretty stuff like that.

But I don't see anything particularly pretty. But it was good. :)

Cooking Sucks Ass!
I hear you. I don't really like to cook either. Well, the cooking part is a bit fun but I don't like cleaning at ALL. And here in TW, it's just easier and cheaper to eat out. Especially for one person. And I'm really not one for left overs either.

Re: Cooking Sucks Ass!
I only - conditionally - enjoy cooking when I do it for others. I am totally cool with eating out and sandwiches. :)

And... I never eat leftovers.

I apreciate your heroic cooking efforts, but I would still like to see the people. :)
Jun. 17th, 2011 06:19 am (UTC)
Well, sorry. :)
