Blogging Polling Analysis.

*** Just because I am a nerd like that. ***
I played with the poll I posted a few days ago. First I have to thank you for partaking it. 44 participants helped me to get a slightly better insight about how people see their own blogs and what they like/don't like when it comes to dealing with the content on their f-list. I made a little Excel table, put in the results and then did some calculating. Some facts - the ones coming from original answers - are pretty obvious, I just wanted to see the correlation of some "insight" to "turn offs".

So, here are obvious conclusuions:
  • Getting to know people and sharing ideas - two major blogging reasons; 81,8 and 86,4 percent respectively.
  • Lack of content/relevance is the main reason to stay indifferent to replying/commenting: 48,7 percent.
Diggin a bit deeper:
  • Understandably, 47,37 of those who want to get to know people better are put off by lack of content in other people's blog.
  • A clear 25 percent of those who feel that blogs bring sharing ideas don't like posts with too many words and pictures.
Silly, but exact correlation:
  • Only 2,27 percent of those who need ego boosting and who are feeling better in BlogWorld loathe other people's Egotrips.
  • Only 4,55 percent of people like to vent and don't like other bloggers doing it (and whining).
Two more facts:
  • Nudity is hardly ever a reason for not replying.
  • Politics is not a big turn off (17,9 percent), but it's a rather stand alone reason. It's OFF politics, ON anything else.

So, here's a tip that can be scratched out of all that:

Try to write happy, cheerful posts, but keep it light when it comes to verbal diarrhoea; don't post all your pictures and you can easily throw in some nudity for good measure. Oh and changing username/handle does seem to chime in with a need for ego boosting.

And here's a shot of my pretty table. :)

And now sue me.

Hmmm... I thought I took the poll but I guess I didn't. Sorry.
Nov. 6th, 2009 12:28 am (UTC)
And I don't think you would give another NO to nudity, right? :)

Some of my answers didn't register. :-(

Well... don't blame me. I love you anyway. :)

Oh, I could never blame you...

Love you, too!!

Very, very good! :)

Another good variable would have been religious content. I can't stand reading about that!

I forgot about that. That's almost a 100% SKIP for me. I am totally atheistic and it really puts me off.

How about the gay marriage initiatives? I am totally of course for gay marriage but I get tired of reading about it sometimes. Actually, a lot. LOL. Guess I'm a bad gay. :)

Well, I like to do such little things. And if I prepared the poll, I should really do something with the numbers that flew in, right?

And since I only sleep 5-6 hours a days, I do have a lot of time. :)

Nice Excel work! :-) I didn't realize you were such an analyst..

Oh, things that hide inside me. I studied IT and more than half of it was mathematic, so I like numbers and facts you can get when you look at them in a slightly more systematic way. :)

Statistics was one of my favorite classes for my Psych. degree. :)
Nov. 6th, 2009 09:26 pm (UTC)
So we can mess with numbers a bit more. :)

I'll chime in too.

Very impressive that you tabulated all this information and summarised so well. Hats off to your thoroughness, sir....

Well, a poll is only for gathering information, right? Next steps need to be done after that. :)

Thanks, D.! :)

I love it!

Sometimes it's nice to make that extra effort. :)

I wasn't analysing that. :))))))

A better man than I am...I hate dealing with figures and statistics, but am happy when someone else does the hard grind and comes up with the information. Well done mate!
Nov. 6th, 2009 08:04 am (UTC)
Hehehehehe thanks! :) It was fun, actually.

Oh, somebody who finds statistics fun! :)

I find the end results fun, at least in this case... but not the process.
Nov. 6th, 2009 09:26 pm (UTC)
Oh, I liked it all. Otherwise I wouldn't do it, right?

We always need some extra time for good "projects". :)))))
Nov. 7th, 2009 02:56 pm (UTC)
Great effort, thanks for sharing the information.

Anytime. Numbers do hide a lot of information sometimes. :)
