Rhetorical Gem.

Me, some two years ago, explaining some Slovene bad words to John jawnbc .

"You know, in Slovene 'plum' is a rather vulgar expression for cunt."

Igor remembered it today and it made us do a LOL. :)

There is a similar kind of local term for "muscle" (shellfish) in Croatian. We were at the feminist seminar dinner and someone ordered it. I dropped my fork :P

So what is the Slovene for plum?

Yes, Croatians also have similar words. LOL

Plum - češplja

Even the sound is.... juicy. LOL

Bulgarian for "plum" - слива (sliva in Roman letters).

It can be used in the same way, and is vulgar enough too. LOL

Really? Слива is vulgar? I guess Eastern Slavs are not sexy - sliva is just sliva, the fruit.

I still believe that nothing beats the tern for shellfish - pizdica.

Слива is only vulgar in that specific context. VERY vulgar and even derogatory. Otherwise it could easily be just the fruit without any hidden connotations.

Oh, nothing beats THAT. And Mirca Eliade says, I can't remember in which book, that there is this same "shelfish" phenomenon in other languages... I'll try to find the book, but I have it in Bulgarian.

Hmm...over here it's just a fruit, and you were talking to JawnBC...

Seems natural enough to me. Plums are good.

There's something similar in Latin American Spanish. In Mexico, Concha is the diminutive for Concepcion (& at least occassionally for Consuelo). Never use it in South America unless you want to get slapped. Think 'plum'.
