So let's cross some bridges now, ok?

Ok, some Slovene stuff, because there's more to music here than ESC flops. LOL The first one is Siddharta, the most popular Slovene rock group, and the song is titles Samo edini (The Only One). If you want to get the lyrics, there's also an English version of the song on YouTube. I somehow prefer the Slovene one (and the singer has got shitty English accent anyway). It's a sad song, as you might get it. FYI: there's no death penalty in Slovenia.

And one more Siddharta. Homo Carnula is the song I really like and this is not their actual video. It's a fan effort with scenes from Dark Angel. I think that guy did a marvellous job. And the lyrics amazingly somehow follow the images. Or is it vice versa?

Next is Laibach, probably the Slovene music export. Across The Universe is taken from their 1988 remake of the whole Let It Be album. Laibach always played with ideologies. And it still does. Probably one of my all time favourite bands. They were really important cultural part of Slovenia's path to independency. Their use of nazi iconography also got them in trouble with official politics, but they survived and they are still going strong.

One of Laibach latest records was called Volk (meaning people in German and wolf in Slovene). They are offering their versions on national anthems on it. Here's Rossiya. That's Russia for you. :)

Straight pop. Slutty looking Alya and A veš (Do you know). A song of betrayal.

Yes, it's got a slightly nasty subtone now. :)

I had to put an easier, catchy tune there as well. :)

A very interesting arrangement of "Across the Universe." I loved it.

Thanks! :)

And they really did a very good job with the whole Let It Be album. They also recorded an intersting album sometimes in the late 80's I think. It consisted of 8 different versions of Sympathy For The Devil. Here's one.

Why oh why does your language have to be so different form mine? I'm a Slav, dammit, and I barely understand a couple of words here and there.

I love the sound of Homo Carnula, but I understand next to nothing.

P.S. and the lyrics of The Only One aren't literally translated into English, are they?
May. 21st, 2009 02:50 pm (UTC)
No, it's not a direct translation, but it carries on the main meaning.
May. 21st, 2009 02:49 pm (UTC)
Because not all the languages are the same? :)

Homo Carnula is a great song, yes.

I learned to understand even a little Serbian, and I can't cope with Slovene. Seems to be very different from the other languages in the group, no kidding.

I found the lyrics of Homo carnula in writing, and I still don't understand them. I can't find any translation into English or Bulgarian.

I'm still not receiving email notifications for your comments.

Thank you for posting these! I love hearing music from other countries and other languages, and it's nice to see the variety that exists.

Siddharta's pretty awesome; my fave group in this set!

because there's more to music here than ESC flops. LOL

Was that directed towards me? :: laugh ::

Glad you like Siddharta. I surely like it too. I might look for more decent Slovene stuff now and then. :9

ESC..... go figure. LOL

I did not know Laibach were your people.
May. 21st, 2009 06:39 pm (UTC)
Yup, they are. Laibach means Ljubljana in German. :)
