Even I can say "No, that's too much."

And it's not messy time at work and silly coworkers...
And it's not me being fed up with politics...
And it's not me having too much work with translations...

Oh, shallow me!

No, it was for a lovely, simply adorable pair of shoes, but I decided that 135€ - $200 is a bit too much. Ok, for today. I might be abusing my card tomorrow, but not today. I am SOOOO PROUD. Oh, shallow me...

Onto another purchase - please, I need some advice. And since I know this is going to be EMOTIONAL, please, I'd really like to get a realistic/factual/rational answer to this question:

1.600€ ($ 2.400) 24'' iMac (yes, unfortunately, that's the running price in Europe...)
850€ ($ 1.300) Core 2 Quad PC?

Do tell, please!

Oh, and some pics from today shopping in Ljubljana - yes, a day without new shoes. LOL

If it makes you feel any better. I own a pair of hiking boots that I paid 269 for about ten years ago, so about 400 in today's prices.

Ok... I'll be there tomorrow.... first thing in the morning.

Hiking boots are different story - I also paid a lot for mine, but these are just.... lovely, parading shoes. :)

And it does make me feel much better. :)

Sep. 17th, 2008 02:36 pm (UTC)
Why do they put the CONA sign on the street??
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:19 pm (UTC)
It's ZONE in Slovene... and the sign marks the end of the pedestrian zone. LOL

Just like that? :)

Yeah, just like that. I've been a PC user most of my life (except for my first computer being an Apple iic from the ice ages) and now I can't imagine my life without my Mac. My IBM laptop and PC tower I built sit there collecting dust. XP and Vista ain't got nothing on OSX. As far as there being no free software for the Mac, that is not completely true. With Boot Camp you can run Windows and access ANY PC software you want. If that's not enough, a majority of freeware is available for Mac, many of those use the X11 protocol. Most of what you really need is already built in to the Mac: amazing calendar (iCal), Mail, iChat (which is really really good, possibly better than Skype), iMovie (to make DVDs), etc. Beyond that, most creative professionals--of which you are one--choose Mac. It works, it is the more sophisticated and well-designed product, it hardly ever crashes and is stable going weeks or months without requiring a reboot, and it just rocks. I dropped my Macbook Pro from a considerable height 3 times and it survived. Tougher than any laptop I've ever had and worthy of the high praise Mac and a majority of other Apple products garner.

PC is a cheap, though admittedly viable, alternative that pales in comparison.

I will SERIOUSLY reconsider my reasoning.

Thanks, M!!!

Oh Lordie... You just opened it up for the "Mac vs. PC" endless slugfest in your journal.
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:29 am (UTC)
But I am begging for ration, not emotions. LOL
Sep. 17th, 2008 04:50 am (UTC)
ever since a turned off msn chat program turned itself on, signed in as someone who visited my home earlier in the year and invited her son for a chat, i decided that i would try mac and i have never gone back. i have less crashes and i hope more control over the programs on my mac.

beautiful photos!
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:30 am (UTC)
Well... MSN settings can easily be handled. LOL

I need stronger reasons. :))))

And thanks! :)

iMac. No viruses for Macs. :)
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:31 am (UTC)
Not anymore...... Intel in Macs did bring some nasty stuff as well - at least it's been in the news. :)
Sep. 17th, 2008 01:50 pm (UTC)
Nope. there was a</a> false alarm last year. Still no viruses.
Sep. 17th, 2008 02:24 pm (UTC)

Are you Mac people to be trusted on this one? :)
Sep. 17th, 2008 06:21 am (UTC)
gorgeous pics, i never get tired of looking:)

Sep. 17th, 2008 06:23 am (UTC)
Ljubljana does offer some nice views. :)
Sep. 17th, 2008 08:53 am (UTC)
Be careful with Mac. First you have to ask yourself what kind of software you want to run and how much I want to pay for that. My colleagues say that it's hard to find "free" software.

I don't have a Mac but I want it ... it so fancy :)
Sep. 17th, 2008 09:28 am (UTC)
Ok.... note taken. So I need to be careful. LOL

I know it is fancy, but at this moment I'd prefer some fancy new equipment for my cam. Hmmmm....... it sounds like I've decided already. :)

I suspected that you were a bit of a shoe whore, but I wasn't completely sure having not read your LJ long enough. I personally just bought a new pair of "Simple" shoes on-line the other day. I like them because they're trendy enough AND made from recycled parts. Win? I just hope they fit, since no two makers seem to make the same size alike. Well, the same maker doesn't even make the same size alike (blergh).

And I LOVE my Mac. It just... works. I struggled with PCs for years both as a user and as a server administrator. There is nothing more disheartening than having to reboot nearly constantly to apply the latest patch or just change your background, it seems. Plus, I haven't really had many software issues, but maybe I'm just lucky. Compared to the Ubuntu that I run at work, the Mac seems like a virtual cornucopia of software!
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:06 pm (UTC)
Shoe whore... OH! :) And since I am a shoe whore, I never busy shoes on-line. I need to feel them and stuff like that. Oh.... I bought another pair today, not for 135, but for 130€. So win!

Hmm.... I really need to ponder on that Mac/PC issue.... I plan to buy it next month, so I'll do a whole lot of thinking and reading and comparing and alike...

Thanks, M! :)
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:08 pm (UTC)
You'd think I was a shoe whore by looking at my closet, until you realized that I just never toss any.

I bought their sneakers before and I think I'm buying the same size as before. *crosses fingers* I remembered really loving them, so we'll see if they fit my big feet!
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:13 pm (UTC)
It should've been "crossing toes*. if not, you'll really have to cross them. :)))) And I also have tough time tossing anything</i>.
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:19 pm (UTC)
If I'm able to cross my toes in them, they're probably too big. ;-)
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:20 pm (UTC)
And the pair I bought today is just PUUUUURfect! :)

Igor and I actually nearly robbed a few stores today. LOL
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:22 pm (UTC)
Nice! I should just toss out the last two pairs that I bought that were too small. I should learn they don't really stretch. :-p
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:23 pm (UTC)

Darned shoes! :)

How is your day going?
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:23 pm (UTC)
Sparkling awesome. You?
Sep. 17th, 2008 05:27 pm (UTC)
Actually relaxing. I had a shitload of meetings at work due to elections this weekend, but everybody seemed to stay on the sane side. And then shoeZ and some sun in the city and now it's slowly getting dark and cold and I like it somehow. And the plan is to go to bed at some reasonable hour tonight. Maybe even on this side of midnight. LOL
