Palmanova.

Yes, Palmanova, Italy. And interesting old city with astonishing star-shaped medieval city walls. We went there last night (it was a short 80 minute drive in rain, darkness and strong northern winds) to a party. It was organised by Kecco and his bf Roman - I know Roman from iSpQ. It was a nice, charming, kind, night. Not too wild, I even danced a bit and I was really happy to see Mitja mitjablazic  and Viki vksi  again. Ok, I see Mitja mitjablazic  at work almost every day, but it's been a while since we had a few drinks together. Funny... we have to go to Italy to meet. Mitja mitjablazic  was making jokes - so where do we meet next time? California? :)

Good time was had.

We had some of this on the left and some of that on the right. :)

A detail and merry men: Igor, Roman, Mitja mitjablazic , Kecco and Viki vksi .

Mitja mitjablazic  and his Holga (I want it too, dammit!!!) and we also had a lot of that on the right. :)

I definitely hope you meet in California - because then there's a chance I would meet you all, too! :-)

That would be terrific.

Isn't it amazing to think how, 20 years or so ago, it would have been very difficult for you all to make that short trip to Italy? Maybe it wasn't so bad in Yugoslavia, compared to other Eastern European countries. Thank goodness those times are over.

Times in Yugoslavia were never that harsh... I think our borders opened in early 50's, so even as I child I remember whole lot of going to Italy and Austria. But still....... gladly it's over. Unless Palin declares another war. Then some other borders might close. Again. :)

Bulgaria was practically a Soviet republic...we were even obliged to study Russian at school, which I don't regret, and were told that it should be our "second native language", which still makes me furiously angry. And it was not easy to go ANYWHERE abroad, not even in the other communist countries.

So I guess we were REALLY lucky.....

Maybe it depends WHERE exactly in Yugoslavia you were. I had a boyfriend form Macedonia, and he copmlained of the regime a lot, although he was younger than me, and didn't get so much of the Communist Era. Well, Macedonia has ALWAYS been a special case, and it still is.

Well... way up north Slovenia was always considered as Yugoslavia Switzerland - I guess the Western influence from Austria and Italy helped a lot.

Italy is only an 80 minute train ride away? Very cool. It's about a ten hour flight for me. Even Seattle, the closest city is a good three hours drive away. I feel so isolated.

Well.... Italy is 45 minutes away. It takes a little longer to get to Palmanova. :)

To rub it in.... 60 minutes till Austria, 90+ till Hungary and 60 till Croatia. :)

You should go to Seattle on 22 Sep. To get a taste of Slovenia. Well, maybe. Check my previous post. :)

Funny I think of Seattle as being a short-ish trip. Even a day trip tho I try to stay with friends one or two nights. Maybe I just drive too fast!

Indeed, it was a really relaxing and joyfull evening. And I was really excited to enjoy some hours in good bear/cub company!
Kecco and Roman were fantastic, taking care all the time of us, they even prepared some nice pasta at 3 AM.
Thank you, cute bears!!
And, Paterson and Igor, I'm so glad we get closer in the last year, cause I like you very much. (And of course I mannaged to absorbe my overdose of TERRE too.) ;-) I'm looking forward too meet you soon.

PS: Of course Paterson prepared me some nice early morning present ... we have our parlamentary election next Sunday ... and he's sending me to cover the headquarter of the most conservative party we have - New Slovenia, katholic conservatives ... LOL

Evening was okay.... and Sunday evening.... you'll really be able to report with distance LOL

It was not intentional - I just the list with journalist and the latest public poll and drew lines. So, that's what it is. But a chance of your little personal victory: Nova Slovenija might not make it to the parliament, so.........:)

Don't worry, it's completelly OK, I am able to report with proffesional distance of any party in Slovenia, regardless my personal opinion. That's my job, and I know very well journalistic and ethical professional standards.

I'm sure it will be a great Sunday ... ;-)

I'll have to check Google to see if I can find a photo of the star shaped mediaeval city wall--I have a thing for ancient city walls (and star shapes)...

Looks like an excellent time out!
