Thirty smiles - Take 11 - Hungry

Finally a nice day and we're on our way to the coast. Well in Slovenia that means an hour drive and you jump in the sea. He that's to happen is still uncertain. The sea might still be too cold. But it doesn't matter. Pictures will follow later and today's smile is from a little shabby fast food place along the road. Jawnbc might even remember it. :-) Place is shabby, but food is just plain good. For a chickenburger that is. KISS and have a nice Saturday. :-)

--no one is jumping into the sea around here right now....

Hope you had a great time! Next time I'm out your way (and I definitely intend to make to SI again), I gotta see the coast!

OUCH! That's a severe one!!! I can imagine it's better to stay dry and safe...

The day was great, I am slightly sunburnt (there goes my white face...) and I want to go back soon. And when you make it to SI again, you'll have a very dedicated local guide. ;)

Laško? Laško?! Isn't that area supposed to be Union? Has the world gone MAD??

Well... Laško bought Union a couple of years ago... so it's all more or less the same thing LOL

So... Union or Laško?

Huh. In the U.S., some of the best food (as in comfort food-perhaps not too healthy) comes from those "shabby little places." I wonder if it's something that we brought over from Europe or it's a world-wide phenomena? Perhaps even literally universal?

I guess it's a world-wide thing... they don't really pay attention how the place looks like, they focus on food. And it's all good! :)

Even though we officially now have this "global economy", with McDonald's in every country in the world, what would be some Slovenian delicacies?

Slovenian delicacies..... the first thing I think of is "ME" :)

Ok, serious... Slovene kitchen is nothing special really... pretty much like German or Austrian - heavy food, with a lot of meat and potatoes and vegetables. Harsh climate took its toll in the past centuries. It's not surprising Italian kitchen is really, really popular here.

A quick search and some PR stuff:

Of course, I disagree completelly ... in my part of Slovenia the dishes (especially in spring) are full of vegetables picked directly from the nature, fresh, according to the season. For example, now I can prepare you a nice kind of pancake with wild herbs, some potatoes with dandelion flowers to eat with prosciutto in cream sauce. Or some white polenta and a pancake with wild asparagus. Some fresh salad made with dandelion and early non-hearting spring lettuce, primroses, violets and wild garlic. Or some rabitt in owen in wine sauce with yellow polenta and goat cheese, some dense (plenta) soup with bitter herbs, or a poor soup with eggs and burned corn meal ... ok ... ok... I used to live 2 km from the Italian border, but still I'm convinced Slovenian dishes are fare from being boring and nothing special :)

"pancake with wild herbs, some potatoes with dandelion flowers to eat with prosciutto in cream sauce"

I am sure it's divine, but is it typically Slovene? :)
