Hola, BCN!

Well, I have severly forgotten about my LJ presence and existence and if I come to think of it, I have also limited my real life existence to too much radio work and too much translating and short nights. But okay, I will have to bite myself through it all till those darned elections and then, maybe, I'll get back to normal. And I have to apologise in advance. There were almost 700 LJ notifications in my inbox, and I am really sorry, but I can't see myself browsing through it all, so feel free to let me know if there's something I should really pay attention to.

As I had said, work has take away too much of me, so we had to do something. And we did. A quickly planned, quickly executed, quick trip to Barcelona. Iggy, Berti, Ricky and me. Five days in a city that proved to be a total gem. Beautiful, amazing, breathtakingly full of architecture, clean, organised and... have I said beautiful? It was my first time in Spain and I really loved it. I will offer you a brisk run through some of the stuff we've seen last weekend. Larger collection of pictures is, of course, flickr'd.

Definitely a city I will return to; in a more relaxing rhythm as well.

So, come with me to BCN...

Excited Iggy
Iggy, all excited.

R&R
Robert and Riccardo.

The best start?
The right start?

Sagrada Familia
Sagrada Familia... No, we didn't get to see the inside, because none us wasn't prepared to wait for some three hours in a queue. Well, we have an excuse to back soon, right? Anyway... as magnificent and beyond imaginable as the church is, it doesn't leave a really good impression on me. It's interesting, organic in its form, but its presence is too heavy, too... evil for me to really like it. Yes, it surely impresses, but not in pleasant way. Who knows, maybe it's just me and that god stuff... we're just not compatible.

Sagrada Familia
The Fifth Element, anyone? :)

Overlooking
Lovely night view of the city.

Gaudi
The city of Gaudi. La Pedrera

Model look?
Twits trying to have the model look. :)

The Contact
The Contact, Park Guell.

Park Guell
Park Guell and crazy crowdy again.

Unusual
Tibidabo... a totally unusual combination of church and a really old, traditional theme park, overlooking the city. FUN! Of course we had to go there, why do you have to ask? :)

Tibidabo
From above.

Majestic
The Cathedral. We opted for this instead of Sagrada Familia.

Tired?
Ricky.

Arc
Arc de Triomf, detail.

Tired?
Iggy, also tired, I'd say.

We called it Pisellone
We called it Pisellone.

Montjuic
Walking on Montjuic.

Arenas
Arenas - Outside.

Arenas, inside
Arenas - Inside.

Arenas
Arenas - Detail.
An old bullring, converted into a commercial center. I loved it.

And.... that's it for now.

It's nice to know that you still exist in some form or other. ;)

LOL Iggy always manages the model look... except when he's very tired.

LOve the street dancer photo.

Iggy, all excited

Too funny--the many and subtle moods of Iggy, a study in contrasts by Tomaz Celestina!

Barcelona is an amazing place, eh? One of my favourite European cities.

Incredible! I remember loving Spain and Barcelona especially, despite the kind of troubling reception I got for speaking Castillian rather than Cataluñan Spanish (Catalan?).

I'm glad they got a little money from your lovely holiday, since the country is reported in U.S. media to be in dire straits like Greece.

I think it might mean "little Pisa"--a ref to the Leaning Tower. I definitely see a resemblance..
paterson_si
Nov. 8th, 2011 11:17 pm (UTC)
Little Pisa would be.... Pisallina, or something.

Pisellino is a little dick, Pisellone a big one.

Resemblance, eh?

Wow, you and Barcelona. I would say that could be called a marriage made in Heaven...

I have heard that everyone stays up till all hours and they eat their supper at Midnight ... I would guess that in the morning, nothing really happens before 10 a.m. which is also true in Hong Kong interestingly enough...

Thanks for the gorgeous album! Interesting that the corrida was converted into a commercial center. But they still have the bullfights, yes?

hugs, Shimmer

Bullfighting is slowly leaving Spain. Catalonia, the region with BCN as the main city, banned them a couple of weeks ago. In some parts of Spain they still have them.

When were you there?
I was over on the 25th and 26th of October for work. It would have been really funny to meet you guys again :-)

Does Iggy really fit into the seat of a Ryanair plane?
paterson_si
Nov. 8th, 2011 11:22 pm (UTC)
We arrived on the 29th. :)

Iggy barely fit there, but on the way back we managed to get emergency exit sits with king size legroom, and it was just nice.

Yes, it would be fun to meet you again. :)))))

Looks like a lovely time - Barcelona ranks with Ljubljana as one of the premiere cities I want to visit, and one reason is knowing some of their illustrious respective citizens.
Speaking of which, were you able to manage a visit with Barcelona's one and only Xavi, aka gorkabear?
paterson_si
Nov. 8th, 2011 11:23 pm (UTC)
Yes, BCN is truly beautiful, really worth visiting.

And, no, our schedule was really tight, so I didn't get together with Xavi.

He he. Interesting to see these sights through your eyes!

If you go back to sagrada familia there is a bank on the corner to the christs statues left. They have two ATMs in the vestibule. At one of them you can buy tickets for a specific tour and skip the line! Heavy old beastly building yet well worth the cost to see the lines and shapes of the inside.

Lots of love
