Well... it's over.

Summer in its truest sense that is. Monday will bring me back to work, and from I can tell, to a total chaos. But... I've had one of the best summer vacations ever and that should certainly account for something.

Yes, I've been away for quite a while. First some LJ issues and then the last days of work which resembled a meat grinder, but I knew what was ahead of me. Summer!!! Three weeks of jolly good time, so to speak. Slovenia, Italy, a little bit of France, Croatia, Slovenia. And, in different settings, Iggy, Ricky, Andrea, Berti and me. My goodness, when I look back it's almost hard to imagine and remember all the stuff we did and enjoyed during these last three weeks. All in all... if Berti didn't sprain his ankle in Croatia (hence no rafting for him) and if Andrea happened to be in a bit more... social mood, this would have surely been a 100/100 Summer. But 98/100 is still okay, right? :)

Anyway, I guess I won't be able to browse all that was going on in LJ these past few weeks, so don't be mad at me, right? :)

And pic-load is, of course, immense. A thoroughly thorough selection (of still 100+ pics) is, of course, flickr'd, the highlights are waiting for you below the cut. Warning, this is still a longish post. So... come with me, please, join me on my trip through Vacanze 2011 and let me show you some beautiful stuff.

Cinque Terre - Vernazza and the sea...
A teasing shot. Vernazza, Cinque Terre, a true gem of Italian Liguria.

So, our vacation started when Ricky came to Ljubljana sometimes during the last week of July. He was already off, we still had shitload of things to do, but it was really nice to slowly drift into vacation mood. Some strolling around the city, good times, good drinks, good food, some nice sights and that was just a perfect start into a holiday. Especially if goodies like this one can wait for you when you get home from work. Yes, Ricky is amazing. And Iggy and I really appreciated that.

Vacation... and Ricky spoiling us

And then it was slowly time for us to go. We packed and went to Verona. One night at Andrea's place and next day, of course, Gardaland theme park. Benefits of season ticket and eternal kids in us. And here's Iggy...

Gardaland... and Iggy

And then off to Genova. Andrea couldn't come with us because of too much work. Ricky was a totally and absolutely a perfect host. He prepared a really lovely "programme" and we managed to see a lot of amazing sights. And the sea. And the food. And all. So, first let's go to Cinque Terre, an amazing settings of five little fishermen villages lined along Ligurian coast. We visited three of them. We took a train there, because the whole area is a closed national park and we walked from the first village we visited - Riomaggiore - to the second one - Manarola. And the path inbetween the two has the name in best italian tradition. Via dell'amore. The Path of Love. Cinque Terre are a really amazing part of the coast and since I was too lazy to do some research before, I was totally taken by the beauty of it all. So, a few shots from Cinque Terre or The Five Lands.

Cinque Terre - Riomaggiore
Riomaggiore - happy Berti, Ricky and Iggy.

Cinque Terre - going to Manarola
The way from Riomaggiore to Manarola. Yes, Via dell'amore.

Cinque Terre - Manarola

Cinque Terre - Vernazza
Vernazza - the most beautiful of them all.

Cinque Terre - Vernazza from above
Vernazza.

Cinque Terre - Iggy and Berti up above in Vernazza
Berti and Iggy even higher in Vernazza castle.

Yes, Cinque Terre, definitely a place I want to visit again. Just on a slightly cooler day, ok? :) And then a day of easy time and resting and some light shopping in Genova.

Genova and tiny Berti
Berti lost in Ricky's house in Genova.

Time to go on the road again. The final destination was Torre del Lago beach in Toscana (no pics from there, sorry), but before going there we stopped in another lovely city, Lucca and in the evening we visited Viareggio. Another total surprise for me. So... another tiny set of pics.

Carrara, home of the finest marble on Earth
Carrara from the car - home of the finest marble there is.

Toscana - Lucca and... the sky
The sky in Lucca.

Viareggio - famous Passeggiata
Viareggio and its famous Passeggiata in Liberty style.

Viareggio - style
More Viareggio.

And then a tiny little trip to France. We wanted to go to Cannes and Nice, but as things turned out we didn't even step out of the car in Cannes or Nice, because we just didn't like the crowd and all that much. Instead of those two cities Ricky suggested Antibes, little treasure between those two cities. Now that was a decision of the day.

Cannes - from the car
Cannes from within.

Antibes - happy three
Antibes where you can easily drift back in time...

Nice - again
Nice from within. Oh well...

And then another total surprise. Ricky took us to Verezzi, a tiny village up there in Ligurian hills above the sea. I know now why they call it one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. And the dinner on of the most amazing places imaginable. Don't believe me? Take a look.

Verezzi - happy two
Yes, it's so nice there.

Verezzi - a perfect host
Yes, it is.

Verezzi - Berti
Indeed it is.

Verezzi - amazing restaurant
And dinner here, a? :)

And the perfect day just didn't end, oh, no. When we returned to Genova there was another scene from the movie. Bocadasse, a tiny fisherman port practically in the city centre which they left intact. And you walk a few steps and you end up in a different world. A pretty one. And icecream rocks!

Bocadasse - a dream
Bocadasse.

Bocadasse and lovely icecream time
Good!!!

And then it was time to leave Italy, return to Slovenia, unpack and pack and Andrea joined us and we went to one of my favourite places in the world. Island Brac deep down in Croatian Dalmatia. Place is so beautiful you will have to do with the pics from a week in which we hardly ever saw a cloud. And downed countless gallons of beer. But that's another story. A perfect wind down place. And, did I say, it's beautiful there? :) So, no words, just images.

Bol, island Brac - blue...

Bol - totally happy two

Bol - the light

Bol - happy? oh, yes

Bol - sooooo lovely

Bol - gift shopping

Okay... if it's the last evening, you're allowed to do some silly stuff, right? Like swim in the night and then take silly pics, right? Right?

Bol - night frolicking

Bol - idiots
No tan lines, see? :)

And then... off to Slovenia. We stopped on tiny river island Otocec on the way back and then unpacked, washed and all. And then it was white water rafting on river Soca. No pics from the river and Berti couldn't come because of his ankle. :( It was a perfect ending of the summer.

Perfect ending of a perfect summer, that is.

Otocec - Ricky, contemplating

Trenta - the most beautiful valley...
Trenta Valley, rafting place.

Trenta and self-timer
Self-timer... and goodbye! :)

I completely lost my mind at the picture of the dining "room", which seems like a far too mundane phrase for an insanely beautiful place.

I'm so glad for you, and feel so privileged to be able to even view these pics. Thank you.

Oh, those people hanging up their laundry practically in the street! We at least have balconies here for that purpose. :)

LOL at Iggy riding the cow.

It looks like a lot of beauty and a lot of fun.

And you are the only one who doesn't have a tan line. Mmm... :)

I love the laundry hanging in the streets. Especially when you walk around those narrow streets in the morning and the fresh smell of laundry mixes with some equally charming smell from a bakery or so... World is pretty.

Those photos are truly fabulous. Thank you so much for sharing your adventure! I'm envious!

Tease and torment me with Ricky, whydontcha!
Hmmm...the strategically wrapped towel oh-so-casually held open to the side...and the 'chef' in his apron preparing a meal. You devil, you....

I'm suddenly in the mood for something Italian.

So cute! Thanks for the pics.

You can catch up with the important stuff here. There are a couple of updatey things after that. Otherwise, the most important thing is that ewr15 is done, and I will be mailing you a copy this week at some point. Hopefully you'll get it this time. :-/

Thank you for sharing Tomaz! As usual, your photographs are fantastic. Additionally, I often learn things from your posts; I had to Google "Vernazza." Lol...

Well, it only took Vernazza to highlight my provincialism. =P I still have to go back and read why it's referred to as a "commune." In the states, that refers to a nest of hippies. *shrug*
