The Fridge Memories

Well, not literally. I love to travel and nowadays it's not really hard to get around Europe, at least. We usually go to low-cost airline webpages, look for a really cheap flight to some at least reasonably interesting city, book the flight, then go on to some hotel/hostel booking web-service, book the lodging and then - eventually - ask for time off at work. Sometimes my boss tries to object a bit, but that always-prepared-excuse "But... I already paid for it all!" seems to work each in every time. Okay, it's easier in the past almost two years. Being sort of a "boss" at work I just need find someone to replace me for my time away and OFF WE GO!
And where does the fridge fit into all this, you might ask? Well, apart from tons and tons of pictures, some other more or less touristic stuff and who knows what else we always - at least try to - look for those tiny little magnets that should somehow represent the place you've been to. So, here is a part of my Fridge Memories. I hope to put on some more soon! :)

Oh my god ...
... I am discovering or that we are twins (and of course I am the younger one (but you are the prettiest;-)) or that both of us have some difficulties with creativity. We have an exact frige with magnets like yours ... simmilar walls with photos of the beloved, passions for Italy, obsessions with bears ... come on, stop copying me!!

Aha! Putting my boss's hat on, I've told my staff that they must get approval BEFORE booking any trips, and that if they don't, I will deny them.

I had to do this, because I had one employee who did this a couple of times, and I had to balance what that employee had done, versus an employee who wanted to take the same time off, but had asked for approval first before booking their flight. In that case, I had to allow the person who had not asked for approval before booking to go, because they had spent money - but I put my foot down for all future requests.

Yes - I'm a hard-ass boss.... ;-)

Hard-ass, my ass :)
My my you're no picnic, I see. I think that the fact I am working at the radio station and that all the work here is more or less daily thing and not to forget the fact that I am dealing with really up-level professionals makes it all a bit easier.
Everybody in my office knows that all the daily work needs to be done and it IS done, no matter who is covering it. So if somebody just isn't around, it's done. So, we take it a bit easier.
And it's all good, and we're all smiling, and we're all liberally taking our time off. :)

Re: Hard-ass, my ass :)
Oh, you laid-back Europeans.....! :-) I'm half and half - first 22 years of my life in Scotland, the next 21, almost 22 now, in the USA.

Actually, I wish we could be a bit more relaxed in our work-habits here - for example, we get a lot less vacation time than in Europe. In my case, I have a lot of vacation time stored up, but I feel there's so much to do, I can't take the time off.

Re: Hard-ass, my ass :)
I get about 25-30 days off per year. And I always feel that's not enough. :)

Yes, Europe is way more laid-back. One of many reasons I like living here.
