I went to buy some food the other day and there was a woman in front of me with a cartful of godonlyknowwhats. Anyway, she started putting her stuff on the tape and the cashier swiftly went about her business meaning the goodies started piling dangerously on the other side of the tape, while that woman still had some half of the cart to unload. So I said to her: "I can help you with that and put it all on the tape." She nearly fell on her arse, she was so shocked. So I did it and after she was finished with paying and all, she still had some honey in here eyes and she said: "Thanks a lot really for being so kind." And when it was my turn to pay the cashier lady gave me a flirting-approving look and she said: "I have never see anyone doing something so nice here."

I was both; flattered and surprised/shocked. Is it really so difficult, even hardly imaginable these days to do something simply kind to a total stranger. Really, people. WTF??? I do such stuff all the time. Just because I am like that. Honestly.

It does happen. I left my wallet on the bus back from London the other week and didn't realise until I was getting on the bus from town to home. The girl in front of me in the queue *incredibly* kindly paid my bus fare home and listened to my drunken ramblings for the journey! And my wallet was handed in unmolested and the bus company let me collect on a Saturday rather than the normal lost-property office hours.

How nice - I can only imagine losing my wallet while traveling like that...or rather I would rather imagine holding on to it!

Common courtesy is in short supply globally I think...

Completely. And it really shouldn't be, because such tiny deeds really don't take much. You just need to notice.

Getting some more female admirers? LOL

I know you are that kind of person, darling... *kiss*

I'm afraid little acts of kindness to strangers are getting scarce even here where they used to be kind of traditional (yes, my culture is complicated and contradictory).

A don't really care about admirers, I was just shocked - and not in a good way - that even such a tiny gesture got described with "Oh, I have never...". Odd world.

Some people are raised well. Some are too self-involved to notice others.

I guess so. Well, I am a "people freak". I am alert all the time, so I guess I just notice things. I am sure that many other notice them as well, I just don't know why it's so hard to do something about it.

It's good to hear you are like that.
It's less common these days and a revival of kindness would be a great thing!

Hey, Dale! :) I guess I try to be kind and nice and polite and it's actually not difficult, cause I am not faking it.

I can believe that, honestly, you are exactly like that Tomaz...Yes, some of us still do normal acts of kindness and amaze those we help!

So you call that thing a "tape"? They conveyor belt thing?

Nov. 30th, 2009 01:52 am (UTC)
Well, it's called a "tape" - "trak" in Slovene, and the word has many meanings. I was just too lazy to look for a proper term. :)

Glad you are one of us. :)

I think we should be nice and kind. It doesn't cost anything (if that was ever the issue) and it makes everybody feeling just a tad better, right?

I once swiped my card for like $5 for a really old lady in front of me that had run out of money. I felt really bad for her because she was buying things like rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips. She was incredibly embarrassed and thankful. I had no idea what to say, I did it without thinking or asking permission. She was going to put some things back.

Plus it kept the line moving. For $5, I was willing to pay it. :)

Gosh,

I can't believe she reacted so surprised. Do people really not do stuff like that any more?

If anything, you were helping YOU more than her - so you didn't get stuck behind a pile of groceries that had spilled all over the floor, that you probably would have had to help pick up!

You and I are very similar indeed! :-)

Glad to know that kindness still exists in the world :o)

Unfortunately many people tend to be more suspicious and selfish...the times have shaped that unfortunately. (Adults cannot help children cos they would be considered paedophiles etc etc)

Then again, we all still need to live together eh ;o)

There are times when just making eye contact here is an effort. Some folks are becoming so beaten down by life that they suspect even the most gentle of gifts, a smile, a kind word, holding a door.

We need to clone you I guess, spread your goodness throughout the world.
