Matte Story Continues.

Ok, that Bentley Flying Spur in magnificent matt black paint caused a lot of reactions among let's say more traditional oriented car fans on my flist. So, let's take the story a bit further. IAA, one of the biggest car shows in Europe is taking place in Frankfurt now and matt paint seems to be very popular among tuning companies. So, the more expensive, the more exclusive, the more chic, sometimes even the uglier the car is, more chances it will end up in a matt paint. So, eat your shiny heart out! :)))

A few examples of matt car kitsch as seen this year in Frankfurt. Pictures taken from SiOL website.

Brabus SLR McLaren. 660 hp, 340 km/h, 3.6 s 0-100 km/h.

Brabus E V12 Black Baron - 6.3-liter V12 biturbo, 800 hp and 1100 Nm of torque. Ugly...

Geiger Dodge Challenger SRT-8. 570 hp.

Hamann Largo Fiat 500.

Mansory Vitesse Rose - taken from the web: "If Paris Hilton was a car, this would be it!"

Mansory Stallone 599.  Used to be Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano.

County fair versions of Porsche cars. TechArt.

Fantastic BMW M6 Competition Edition. Who needs tuners........

Yes, Challenger really looks mean, which is good. :)

And 500 is adorable in all its forms.

Yes, the Z4 concept opened the trend. I still like it.

What would you do back in 2004?

I'm afraid I agree with Bill, once again.

The Bentley especially upsets me - it can be such a gorgeous automobile in most any other guise (even the matte black you showed previously would be a huge improvement over this)

The EV12 looks like it's trying too hard to be all sinister and intimidating. That, or it's auditioning to be all fly and gangsta to earn a place in a Xzbit rap video.

Well... 230 mph speed needs some aerodynamic sacrifices. But it is ugly as hell. :)

Yes, Bentley is Paris Hilton. I just wanted it to be an example of exclusive matte approach. :) EV12 is a piece of bad taste, but it can still make 370 km/h(230 mph).

Whatever. It is wrong and it will fail. Here. :)

As Americans, we have been trained into believing that if your car is not shiny, you are a trashy white dude with an old Honda Civic and a coffee-can muffler.

I'll never own one. It looks like they are just primered.

Call me a garish American, but I will not embrace this trend. Ever.

We did IAA in 2001 and 2005. BMW had a matte finish Z4 hardtop coupe on display. Before we arrived, I'd seen photos of it and thought, "yuk." But in person, holy shit that thing was hot. We'll probably do IAA in 2011. We have a friend in Bremen who works for BMW - he always gets us into the really fun pre-general-admission events. He's insisting we come over for the 2011 show. Maybe that's when I'll finally meet you in person.

My 2008 C350 lease is up in December. Though it's kind of out of character for me, I'm really thinking about getting a Challenger. There's just something about that car. And I also think it will only be produced for a few more years - just a hunch.

IAA 2011 - if not earlier - seems a good place and time for me. :)

Challenger is a sexy car - I find 2010 Mustang even more sexy though.
