Strange Days.

Yes, strange days. I took some time off. Yesterday was a national holiday here - 18th "birthday" of Slovenia - and I decided to stay home till next Wednesday. I am still hoping for some nice weather next week so that we finally manage to see some sea and sun. And tomorrow it's Celestina brothers' day and Sunday is Zver (which is Igor's last name, btw... Means Beast. Go figure. LOL) Sibling's day. Good weekend ahead. And now onto last two strange days. I should be happy though, but I am somehow not. More on that later.

So... first and foremost. Something that really brought smile to my face. Matjaž got himself a new puppy. A tiny, sweet Whippet named Gareth. I can hardly wait to see him in... well... person. :)

Shopping...

Our new Nespresso machine, Citiz breed. :) The old one's buttons died...

New AussieBum package arrived today. I might try some out tonight... :)

*********************************************************************************************************************************

Ok, usually this should really make me more or less content, not to mention Bear Party tonight. Bear Party is also part of Pride Week here in Ljubljana and the shitty thing about these two days happened last night. A group of masked nogoods attacked Mitja mitjablazic  while attending one of Pride literature reading. Luckily idiots with torches didn't hurt Mitja too much, but he has stitches on his head and I am really, really, really pissed off. Guess the fact I live in my own circle of people in which everything is laid out clearly somehow made me overlook the fact that Slovenia still is a rather dark society. A nation with a national character unpleasantly close to that of Austrians and similar conservative, tight, not relaxed nations in which radical acts like this still happen. But I have to say I am happy with the way official politcs reacted and this attack, which would probably pass by almost unnoticed some years ago, made headlines today. It has to. It's a lame, terrible thing to do. Wearing masks, beating and then disappearing in the dark is an act of pure cowardness for me. An act of people who are far, far, far away from being at ease and at peace with their own life, their own emotions, their own sexuality.
I still need to see how I'll cope with all that in my head, but I am sure I will give Mitja mitjablazic  and Viki vksi  a big, giant, warm hug and kiss on that Bear Party tonight. They really deserve it.

So, pardon me for this venting, but I am really mad. Maybe also scared a little? I don't know.

I don't know. But thanks, Mitja!!!

Big hugs to Gareth and especially to Mitja.
Such good news about the pup and such terrible news about the beating.
Sad :(

Hugs delivered! :)

Mitja is okay and I have to say that surprising reaction of Slovene politics and media continues. Pride parade is #1 news today here, not least because police said they will do all to protect the participants should something similar happen. I think 2009 is a kind of a break-through year for gay rights movement hear. I hope it is.

:(

I'm really sorry - one day Eastern Europe will have the same rights for LGBT people as most of Western Europe. The problems in Moscow during Eurovision really brought it home to me how far we've come in the UK and how you don't have to travel very far to find institutionalised intolerance... One of the reasons I'm pro-EU is because the Convention on Human Rights gives us the protections we might not otherwise have if it was left to national governments...

Yes, we are moving there, slowly. But official reaction still and again pleases me.

Please give Mitja my regards -- that's horrible that people in this day and age still feel the need to do shit like this, the fuckers!

(BIG HUG) Acts like this, show why we still need to even HAVE pride.

HUGS made it there.

I'm sorry to read about your friend. People are like that all over in that they feel empowered to be hateful so long as they are safely concealed and in a group. It just sucks.

It's really sick. And even today when I was reading some forums I felt terrible. The anonymity of internet is not such a good thing sometimes.

It still happens here in the US sadly. Where there is little to be done about masked thugs in a group, it seems one of the best things someone can do is to have self defense skills. I know my size (I was muscular before I became fat) has made muggers think twice about bothering me. Most of these beatings do come from cowards.

I hope your Bear Party is a whole lot of fun despite the stupid attack. Tell all your bear friends that San Francisco bears send big hugs and kisses. It would be fun to be with you all tonight.

He good all that and he is doing okay. He was the hero of the day in Slovenia yesterday. And that's a good thing. Media coverage was immense and the parade today is #1 news for the first time. Not least because police promised they will do all they can to protect the participants.

Terrible. And a reminder that even in the most tolerant of societies there are people who will do all they can to damage us. My condolences to Mitjo.

Ugh, I hate to hear this about Mitja, especially right after I am coming out of one of my regular "SLOVENIAN-PEOPLE-MAKE-ME-SO-MAD" episodes! i am very proud to hear that the press and the politicians are speaking up about his. Yes, Slovenia can!

Jun. 27th, 2009 10:26 am (UTC)
Yes, obviously Slovenia can. Parade is #1 news today. I cannot imagine that happening a few years ago.

And ....... I DO understand your "make-me-so-mad" phase.

*gets seriously angry*

This is how our Bulgarian no-goods act too.

And the general social atmosphere is MUCH worse in Bulgaria. When I once saw the photo of Igor on your office wall, and obviously no one was shocked, I thought to myself, I can't imagine such a thing here in Bulgaria.

I guess it's too late to ask you to kiss Mitja and Viki from me at the party. Maybe I'll write Mitja an email or something.

Oh.... I am sure I gave enough kisses to both of them for all of us. :)

It is awful. And I hope (well, I know) things will change for the better.

Puppy is pure cuteness. And I will keep on posting.

HUGS, Pete! :)

This is horrible news - needless to say, when you see Mitja and Viki at the Bear Party, give them a hug and kiss from me - and indeed from all their LJ friends! We're all thinking of them.

Here's the story on the US Amnesty International website..

They got a lof of hugs. And I am happy to see the incident got a very thorough coverage. The only way to implant it all it moron's head. :)
