Ok, now I am ready for the green part.

Of the year, that is. Skiing fun in France is over. Well, weather-wise, it could've been better. Due to really strong winds they had to close some of the highest connecting slopes, so we were stuck with skiing in "our" valley, but it was still great. I think I managed to teach myself some new skiing-tricks, that led me to really relaxed skiing, so I think I've covered more skiing kilometres than ever before. Company was nice (as usual) and drive home was exhausting; a pretty dreadful combination of snow in France and Italian way of repairing highways. Why bother, just close them and send thousands of cars on some local byway... but charge the toll anyway.

Anyway, I am already thinking about our next skiing vacation, but before that many little new things will have to happen, starting with our trip to Tuscany in April. So... going back to work tomorrow does not seem that desperate.

But I need a nap now. And let the pictures tell the tale of our week in French Alps.

We kicked off at 4somethingAM... Pretty dark, I'd say.

Elite troop of IdiotsInHelmets™.

Stopped. Wind. Chalet time. Beer and Génépi.

If you can't ski, you can always walk, right? (And do some shopping and bar-time, respectively.)

"Our" chalet  (La Sapiniere) is the top right one. Nice little "village".

On skis.

Off skis.

Church tower in Les Menuires. Would you guess the whole little city came out of nowhere in early 70's?

Iggy by the fire.

The fire.

Killing time.

Street lamp and the Moon.

Night machinery.

Another Idiot™ moment. :)

The remnants of Savoie. Raclette.

Snow... A lot of it. And Dutch and Belgians do not know how to drive in snow. Let alone in snow and on slopes.

Thanks, Dr. E.! Normally I take more, guess I just wasn't in the mood. Or spent too much time skiing. :)

Hehehehe helmets were cool, yes.

We took a van. Citroen Jumper HDI - 2800ccm, 130 HP, 8 seats, pretty comfy for 5 people. And I could easily do 170 km/h on the highway with it.

Something like this one: http://www.vipminibus.com/m3images/citroen-jumper.jpg

Thanks for the pictures!! They are great! :o)

What kind of ski tricks did you learn? (I used to be a ski instructor ten years ago.)

Well.... I was trying some classical alpine/carving combination that worked really well and helped me to ski much faster and more relaxed (also on some rather "hilly" slopes) than before. I called it a "progressional breakthrough" and attacked every single demanding track with mentioning it. I think they got fed up with me eventually. :)

I'll just sit in the ski lodge by the fire with a glass of wine and some fondue and watch you all risk breaking bones on the slopes... :-)

But your plan is also pretty appealing, I must say.

Great to hear that you had such a wonderful time!
(And lovely photos, as always - that goes without saying).

Despite spending my first 30 years near the Alps, I've never learnt to ski! Che peccato.

Yup, we managed to squeeze a few decent days, despite the wind. :)

(Thanks!!!!! :*)

And you can still learn how to ski, you know..... :)

Wow... that place looks amazing! Nice pictures!

I wonder if I could learn to ski decently if I'd ever tried anywhere but places here in the southeastern US... we generally have a mixture of man-made snow, icy pellets and mud at slopes with 5 hours drive from here.

Oh and I love the mini-bus! I think you should've worn a vintage bus driver's chapeau! That would be hawt!!!

I think you could learn to ski, yes, but, yes also, you'd need some better conditions. And I really enjoyed the mini-bus thingie. It felt so cool! And next time when we rent it (that should be in April) I'll get me a proper chapeau! :)
