I am back!!!

Oh, dear, I don't know what got into me that I took a pencil and a blank sheet of paper today and I actually followed the urge. So, this is my first complete car sketch/drawing since 1995. So my design clues are pretty 90's, perspective is still a bit odd when I look at it, this is not a modern cross-over concept, the car doesn't bring any new ideas and so on and on and on... but it feels so *fucking* good to do it again!!!!!!! :)

I think I like it a lot!

Interestingly, I considered a university major in Industrial Design. From there I wanted to design cars. However, things didn't work out that way, but all the while I was dreaming, I was sketching cars in school and in my spare time at home.

Now, I must tell you this was some time ago...*ahem*...
The US had just gone through the first energy crisis and many of the newly "small" U.S. made cars compared themselves to the Merceded-Benz 200 models:

Anyhow, I spend endless hours doodling autos in the popular "folded paper" styling idiom of the day. My favorite example of this period is the Fiat 130 coupe. No other car wore that sort of crisp design as well.

I could draw cars well in that style. Later, curvier design - not so much. Kudos to you on your talent.

Too bad that design idiom fell from fashion for the aero look of the early 80's. I might've had a career otherwise, lol.

Car design.... I was better once. :)

http://paterson.freewebspace.com/avtoti.htm

It was probably my favourite way of killing time till my 25th year. And I was also following design ideas of the time. I also passed some tests on Roy Art Center - College of Design in Switzerland, but studying there was insanely expensive. So I eventually dropped it and I guess it frustrated me to a point I totally quit drawing. I guess it's time to start doing it again - just for kicks this time.

Hey, maybe I could do a Fiat 130 coupe revival for you! :)

And Granada surely rocked in that commercial. But it was Chicken of the Sea that left me breathless. :))))))

Thanks, Effe! But it might take some time 'till I get "in shape" again.

And till I get some grasp of modern design lines.

Thanks! :) No need to me envious, you just need to do what you feel like doing and something always comes out. :)

Very nice! You are one, talented guy. I wanted to be a car designer when I was a kid. My favorite cars to sketch were the Volvo P1800 and the Datsun 240Z (showing my age - 44 next month). As an adult, it was a great feeling when I got to own each of these.

Keep the automotive art coming. I'd love to see more.

P1800 and 240Z - two astonishing cars! And, yes, you were lucky to own them. Oh, I think I will keep those sketches coming.

I feel it in my fingers... :)

And if I had the chance to become a car designer... that's probably the only job in the world that wouldn't actually feel like a job to me, but like a way of life.

It feels really great again! And there's no stopping me now! I just needed to overcome some bad/sad feelings somehow linked to drawing. And it apparently took bloody 15 years till I grew up........

Hugs, J!
